New Year update

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that you all have a prosperous and peaceful New Year.

I had quite an eventful 2013 to be honest. I moved home in October from the flat I had lived in since 1997… it is a council bungalow that has sheltered accommodation within the complex – i.e., I have moved into an elderly complex with individual bungalows because of my conditions.

Roy, my nephew who lived with me, finally moved in with his long-term partner and children, which freed me up to get a more smaller, secure and safer place to live – hence the move to ‘BungalHome’ as I have named it!

My Mam and stepdad have gotten worse with their Alzheimer’s Disease – in fact my Mam is now in the later stages of the illness, and this is so distressing to see – but we have to accept it, because a cure isn’t going to be available anytime soon, if indeed ever – and it is also my inevitable destiny – so to dwell on it just causes too much emotional stress.

Here are some pictures of BungalHome – which I have now settled well into

My name is Daryl and I was born in October 1965. I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease in June 2011, and I was put on medication, which I believe is helping keep the worst of the condition at bay. In November 2012 I was also diagnosed with the first stages of Parkinson's Disease and I am now two lots of medication for this illness as well. I live in a secure bungalow in an elderly complex in my hometown of Sutton-in-Ashfield and I have support from the social services and a support worker who visits six hours per week to help me live my life as independently as possible. Visit me on my Facebook page... I love life now, and the people in it - so show your support for me and the organisations that support dementia and Parkinson's disease - let's make this small world of ours a much more pleasant place to live in by caring for those that need that little bit more help in life!
