Mam & Mac’s Ruby Wedding…

img_0027My Mam and my stepfather Mac celebrated their 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary on 20 October this  year in their care home, Loxley Lodge.

I took the great-kids and my niece Katie to see them after they had finished school as their was a buffet that we had organised for them and the residents in their care home and we had a wedding cake made special for them too.

My Mam, at one time, would’ve loved being the centre of attention, but sadly, with the worse progression of her Alzheimer’s, she was in a frankly awful and foul mood – which sort of put a complete dampener on the whole of the day – even my stepfather had got a mood on him – but I believe that is because my Mam was in an agitated mood.

img_0019Still, we did our best for them – and my Mam loves seeing the kids anyway – and I did manage to get a couple of decent photos of them and the cake, before it all went pair-shaped!

My name is Daryl and I was born in October 1965. I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease in June 2011, and I was put on medication, which I believe is helping keep the worst of the condition at bay. In November 2012 I was also diagnosed with the first stages of Parkinson's Disease and I am now two lots of medication for this illness as well. I live in a secure bungalow in an elderly complex in my hometown of Sutton-in-Ashfield and I have support from the social services and a support worker who visits six hours per week to help me live my life as independently as possible. Visit me on my Facebook page... I love life now, and the people in it - so show your support for me and the organisations that support dementia and Parkinson's disease - let's make this small world of ours a much more pleasant place to live in by caring for those that need that little bit more help in life!
